Worked as work rider, stable manager and workhand predominately for Richard Allan and Paul Cole yards. This was my grounding in the bloodstock and racing industry.
Cheveley Park Stud – Yearling Yard Manager
After suffering riding injuries ending my ambitions to be a National Hunt jockey I was fortunate to be employed by Cheveley Park where I was appointed Yearling Yard Manager after demonstrating my abilities in all aspects of bloodstock welfare and development.
Sir Henry Cecil’s Cliff Stud, Helmsley-Stud Manager
Complete operational management of Cliff Stud on a day by day basis accommodating up to 80 horses. Responsible for all staff employment and evaluation of investment risk and return. Detailed and confidential liaison with owners. Organising of horse transport. Breeding plans for mares, foaling and foal welfare. Preparation of horses and foals for sale. Buying at sales and privately for clients. Specialist in efficient recuperation from injury. Feeding and nutrition management. Pasture management , horse walkers and paddock configuration. General marketing and sales bringing in business from new owners and trainers.
Throughout my employment at Cliff Stud I forged close links with several of North Yorkshire’s top racehorse trainers, including Kevin Ryan, David O’Meara and Brian Ellison. They regularly sent their horses to the stud and were always delighted with the well-being of each horse and the attention they received.
My achievements at Cliff Stud include raising 16 Group winners and selling a yearling for 400,000 guineas.
